I've gone with Geni.com, by the way, because it's free.  And has a nice interface.

I was started using Geni- then I thought about it and went - hmm...big database of information on my whole family online. Not sure everyone would want that.

Seems to be quite good at security so far. You have to be a member of the family to see anything.

You invite people into your family tree, and they only have access to people you've added if you set up the security that way.
