2. One of the saddest things I saw in a discussion of emotional labor (invisible labor?) was that there are women who stuff stockings for the whole family and then pretend to be surprised at what they get.

The saddest bit there is that the men probably don't realise that the women are doing it.

On one hand, I feel like, if you're lying, you shouldn't blame people for believing you. On the other hand, the men should think about where that stocking is coming from.

On the religious aspects of Christmas being optional:

C.S. Lewis said that the term "Christmas" covers three separate things. First, a religious event which is followed only by a small minority of the people. Second, family celebrations and the like, and he had no intent to criticize what people chose to do with their own leisure time. But third, a mandatorily-observed public orgy of present-buying, card-exchanging, and required cheerfulness which had nothing to do with the other two for all that it rides on their backs, and which he found depressing and annoying.

Besides a serious essay on this subject, he wrote an amusing pastiche of an ancient Greek historian's description of the strange people who observe these customs.

I think "Occulted Imam" would be fun, but I don't think that's quite the same thing, except maybe like "Yo I came back and you get an end times, and you get an end times - everyone gets an end times"
