4) As the article points out, a number of the remaining heriditaries (there were less than a hundred of them) have been offered life peerages, so they're staying. A number of the commenters demand the appointed Lords be replaced by an elected chamber. Bad idea. You've already got an elected chamber, and see how well that works. A freely-chosen PM whom nobody likes. Brilliant. So long as the Lords act as a revising chamber only, and can't override the determined judgment of the Commons, there's nothing wrong with an appointed chamber, and maybe they can come up with ideas that a bunch of blow-dried media-friendly politicians can't.

It may push HMG into thinking a whole lot more carefully about this whole sorry issue!

All they realy need to do is to sort the equalities act so we (trans people) can't be treated like this any longer.
