I've only visited London, but I do have to say the zoning regulations seem far more messed up than even Toronto. There's a lot of opportunity to increase density without impacting livability.

Unless things have changed for the better in the past 8 years, the UK in general seemed to my to have lots of vacant city centre office and shop space but massive demand for housing in the same area.

Of course you do get issues when things change ... Like music bars and venues closing because the new residents complain about noise. Grr.

(I think Berlin also has some of the same issue ... But it's not quite as in yer face).

2. I wish we could just kill the Sacred cow of the green belt. Politician after politician talk about building more on brownfield sites, but realistically what little there is left in London would have been built on already if it wasn't full of asbestos or other toxins.

5. I am generally against murder, but in this case I think it would almost be justified as a service to narrative...

And of course when they say 'London' they are really talking about 'Londonising' yet more of the counties around them.

I grew up in Kent in the Medway towns and London gets closer with each passing year, which is why I am glad we now live in north Shropshire where even Brum is far enough away.

For "100 people trapped" read "some car users couldn't move their cars"

Last time I went to Greenway was with Jennie & kid, we walked from my parents, it's a genuinely lovely walk. Plus there's regular steam trains this time of year. Just take the train home and come back tomorrow, or go enjoy the rest of the area

(I know, not that simple for everyone, but the idea "tree blocks road" is "bleak" is just so very entitled)

(2) An interesting form of political suicide, for a Conservative MP: property developers and housebuilders with a 'land bank' are one of the key funding sources for the Conservative Party, and property owners are the core voting bloc.

Mass housebuilding, on a scale not seen since the nineteen-sixties, is the key to solving housing shortages; and it is, absolutely, the key to making housing affordable again.

It follows that this will result in a severe reduction in the wealth of the Conservative Party's core electoral and financial supporters.

8. A good result this time, but one, did the harassed employee get suitable recompense, and two, does this set dangerous precedent for big companies to go after online customers that they don't like ?
