When I rewatch it, I flip from sub'd to dub'd depending on mood and love both versions. I still love 'Totoro' more, but 'Mononoke' is my 2nd favorite Miyazaki films & I've tried to collect them all.

In the original, much of this scene is solemn & silent. The the scene is shown - 'camera' behind the eldest - showing all the men with heads down. Gaiman adds about 3 sentences of explanation, explaining why Ashitaka's loss this is so devastating to the village - that he is dead to them now - and it's just perfect.
There are a few extra bits of dialogue from the gals at Irontown, which are a little rough, good-natured banterings & it's mentioned in passing they were happy there since they can choose who they sleep with.
There is remarkably little changed. Just the occasional few words to flesh out why things are happening. And the English voice actors are excellent. I think I love Gillian Anderson's Moro slightly more than the Japanese voice actress, but both groups of voice actors are fantastic.
