Having read the article, I realise that it is using affordable in the sense of cheaper rents for poorer people, and including social housing, rather than the housing specific sense of "affordable" which means up to 80% of market rents. In Cambridge at least this is significantly more expensive than social housing, and not actually affordable except by people who don't need it.

At this point I'll take more housing of any type at all, until every location has more housing available than there is people to put in it!
