I currently use NordVPN occasionally. It's very useful because it has a Firefox plugin, so I can turn it on and off without affecting any other applications.

My renewal comes up in thirty days. Should I be switching to another provider? If so, which one?

I think Mozilla itself has just launched a VPN - there was a notification or ad with the last Firefox update.

This isn't an endorsement, but it might be worth investigating!

Keeping that in mind for my own investigations...

I just had a look at it. I like the idea of Mozilla because of its privacy settings and philosophy.

Mine isn't up for renewal yet but I bookmarked Trust Zone and Proton VPN as good alternatives when it'll be. Can't recommend them as anything else but worth looking into at this point.

Mullvad is very simple and easy to use, with decent speeds and a variety of server locations to pick from, which is useful when dealing with region-restricted YouTube videos. Pricing is very simple, with a flat rate per month.

One disadvantage is that they don't store your e-mail or other contact information, so if you lose the twelve-digit account number given upon payment, you can't get them to resend it to you.

Another disadvantage is that it sends ALL traffic through their servers when turned on, not just that from a single browser. So, if you're using the VPN to appear to be in the US when watching country-restricted YouTube videos or news articles in your browser, your e-book or online shopping clients (in separate applications) will also think you are in the US, and direct you to the US purchase pages for items.

Upon investigation, it looks like Mozilla is using Mullvad for their VPN provider.
