Date: 2019-10-30 06:51 pm (UTC)I have no idea how many deaths in or near childbirth were caused by "oops nobody noticed the extra bleeding because it was too dark" or "oops pregnant woman slipped and fell down during labor because nobody could see where she was walking and that turned out...badly." And I try not to think about surgery by candlelight.
Much as I love reading and am glad I can do so until midnight with our modern miracle of light at all hours, that's a very minor enhancement compared to the difference that good lighting has made in medical settings.
