Vacuum tube trains are feasible- the Victorians had 'em but the technology wasn't quite up to controlling the leaks.

They called them 'atmospheric railways'.

Aaah, yes - pneumatic trains!

Not quite the same (the new ones wouldn't work through air pressure alone), but clearly they could get a low pressure tube up and running, at least for a while!

One of my LJ/Dreamwidth friends drove for Lyft and Uber, and complained once how she was getting so many POC rides that she had to cancel, wasting her time and keeping her from getting "good" rides. She stopped doing it when I asked her to (or at least stopped posting about it).

Not sure why it is a thing, a paying customer is a paying customer. It can't be perception of poverty and not being able to pay, as the rideshare platform ensures the driver gets paid.
