Canada to ban keeping whales, dolphins in captivity

This is bad news: the way that they have set it up, even government/nonprofit organisations now can't take whales and dolphins in for medical treatment/rehab unless a vet signs off that they will be releasable within 6 months.

As a result, animals are being euthanised that would not previously have been.

My source was a personal conversation with a Canadian who does a lot of volunteer work for a not-for-profit marine mammal rehab facility. I'll see if I can find an article.

They weren't saying that any animals HAD been euthanised yet, only that this bill would cause that outcome in future.

I should have written "will be" instead of "are being" - sorry, I was tired.

Rough Consensus: How Do You Make Good Decisions Efficiently in a Flat Organization?

That's surprisingly good description. It is hard to get it to work, but it's good to know some people are getting somewhere.

I'm wondering whether the NSPCC will be big enough to admit that they've been royally conned, but I'm not holding my breath. :o(
