Date: 2019-06-12 12:41 pm (UTC)This is bad news: the way that they have set it up, even government/nonprofit organisations now can't take whales and dolphins in for medical treatment/rehab unless a vet signs off that they will be releasable within 6 months.
As a result, animals are being euthanised that would not previously have been.

Date: 2019-06-12 01:23 pm (UTC)I can’t see anything about that online. And checking the bill itself at https://www.parl.ca/DocumentViewer/en/42-1/bill/S-203/third-reading it exempts rehabilitation with no time limit.
Got a link to the article talking about euthanasia? (I’d also be very surprised if any animals had been euthanised already, as the bill was only passed yesterday.)

Date: 2019-06-12 01:30 pm (UTC)They weren't saying that any animals HAD been euthanised yet, only that this bill would cause that outcome in future.
I should have written "will be" instead of "are being" - sorry, I was tired.
