I am tired

The cough that had me off on Wednesday got progressively worse, driving me crazy over the course of the day.

I took some Night Nurse, which is supposed to help with getting to sleep when your throat is constantly tickling, which made me more tired, but failed to stop me coughing about every three minutes (or, exactly as Julie was finally dropping off).

So at quarter past midnight, with Julie having to get up at 7am for a meeting with her supervisor, I got back out of bed. I wandered into the living room, thinking that even in my almost-dead state I could randomly surf the internet, hope my cough went away entirely, and then sneak back into bed.

Instead I discovered that my cough wasn't going anywhere, and then I remembered that the new router was turned off (because it flashes a lot, the cable endpoint is in the bedroom, and I hadn't gotten around to putting it under something during the day because I felt exhausted). So I had no internet to play with to keep me occupied either.

Instead I played Osmos for an hour, until I was literally falling asleep in my chair, curled up on the sofa with a floor pillow at one end and a blanket over me, and fell near-instanty asleep in what would normally be a horribly uncomfortable position for me.

I was woken at 5am by Julie, who had apparently woken up repeatedly because there wasn't an Andy next to her, and had come to take me back to my rightful place as the lump in the other half of the bed. And there I slept until 7am, managed to make Julie a cup of tea to wake _her_ up, watched morning TV, knocked the tea cup while Julie was drinking from it (thus baptising our four-day-old mattress), and then passed back out again until the postman rang the doorbell at 10am with the replacement-replacement-charger* for my laptop.

And then, not properly awake, I went and met Julie in town, had breakfast in a pub, accompanied her to a Doctor's appointment at the hospital**, and then came home via handbag shopping in John Lewis for the wedding we're at on Saturday.

And now I feel dead. Bath time, I think, to see if warm water can revive me. And most definitely an early night tonight.

*The replacement charger worked fine for three weeks and then died. Thankfully the company was very happy to send me a replacement for that.
**The original reason I had today off work. Being ill on day's off _sucks_. Nothing serious, by the way.

Legally, if you take a days leave and find you are sick you are entitled to reclaim however many days you were sick from your annual leave. I've never understood why that made any sense, I've always thought if you are ill on a days leave then that's just bad luck, but it is apparently the law.

I agree you get the day back - especially if you're still off sick tomorrow. Someone was looking for you today, no idea why they were looking for you in my department, but I helpfully advised you weren't in. Oh night nurse never makes me sleep. Best thing I've found is potters pastilles. I lie down whilst sucking one and find I drop off easier.

I go for the bronchial/catarrh ones, they're quite strong but definitely give good relief.

It's because liberals live in a world where an employer would never pressure a worker to "choose" to take their annual leave on the very days they are sick. Generally speaking, you can take for granted that every worker protection law you think is too generous to workers is a response to past abuses you and your family mainly have the class privilege of not having been the target of.

Knapsacks. They're not just for other people, you might have one too.

Hope the EvilCough soon takes itself off. Mine had a last gasp (heh, heh) after a day with no cough, I had a little bit tickle at night, but then gone. Sleep well, eat well (too many carbs apparently can make yr immune system have to work harder) and hopefully you will soon be well.

I really hope for your sake that it is not the cough that I've had for 1.5 weeks, complete with high (39+) fever and headache.
