There are some grids around the place that look a bit like this:

At some point someone has made a "What they should have done/what they actually did" for a bunch of the characters. [livejournal.com profile] momentsmusicaux was trying to track it down, and I'm buggered if I can find it anywhere.

Anyone know?

I did some more googling yesterday. Didn't find it, but it was based on the 'animal advice' meme, and I seem to remember it was someone who'd assembled it as a collage of all the various characters.

The Jaime Lannister one was along the lines of 'Could have any woman in the seven kingdoms. Gets his sister pregnant'.

... but without the wacky colour backgrounds.

That's an amusing meme, but I can't see past the terrible photoshop job on Cersei...

Doh, who's that in insane good? I always get this with GoT memes; I know the books well, and the casting is sufficiently good you can usually tell _most_ of the characters, but not all.

Arya's swordmaster.

Oh yes, he is awesome. I always thought of him as just eccentric, but I suppose "insane" is not innapplicable. There's a certain shortage of good characters who fall cleanly into one of the categories :)

Any particular reason you haven't watched the TV series?

It wasn't on terrestrial or virgin (I think?) and I just haven't got round to finding the DVDs or downloading it from somewhere. I definitely want to.

Yeah, it's on Sky Atlantic which Virgin won't buy from Sky or Sky won't sell to Virgin or something stupid. My housemate bought the BluRay, which is something I'm quite grateful for-we now have the kit to play DLd stuff through the TV but not got into the habit yet.

I'm having problems with Jon Snow as 'smart good', I think he only really qualifies as smart by process of elimination, he's the least stupid...

You know, I think Cat Stark is just as insane and just as evil as Cersai.

Whenever you need to find any of these things just to go to memebase.com.

They have an archive of all of them for any fandom.

What I do there is type in memebase.com and then follow that with a backslash followed by the word "tag" followed by the name of the fandom with the words separated by dashes.

So I found this by typing in http://memebase.com/tag/game-of-thrones/

I don't think Cersei is insane evil. Everything she's done in Season 1 is to protect her family, and she's far more pleasant and unlikely to have you casually brutally murdered for entertainment than her son. I'd place her at smart neutral, albeit with elements of stupid. Meanwhile, I'd place Tyrion at Smart good -- is there anything he's actually done wrong, other than sleep around and be nice to people down on their luck? He's the most sensitive person in the entire series that I've seen.

And really, no one in ASoIaF is totally good -- even the Starks aren't squeaky clean.

I find it very hard to make generalisations about GoT characters. Some people do evil things just because they can (although we often find something more sympathetic about them later). Some people do evil things because it's set in a world where they're commonplace. Some people do evil things because they're personally ambitious. Some people do evil things because it's the only way they can survive. Some people do evil things because they're 13 and going through a "pulling wings off flies" stage, but there's no-one in authority to give them a good talking to and make sure they grow out of it.

And people slide back and forth on the scale depending how much we know about what's going on in their heads.

I can talk myself either way on Cersia. To me, Cersei seems one part ambition (which is reasonably understandable, especially given the hand she's dealt of being a beautiful woman in a stupid medieval society), one part ruthlessness (which is arguably evil, but not EVIL evil if she could kill just like a couple of people because she really had to, rather than panicking and killing everyone), but her real problem is biting off more than she can chew. So on the one hand, that's all entirely understandable (someone had a good point when they said that if she had let Ned go on with his denouncement, it was quite likely that her children would have been assassinated later). But on the other hand, people who go on and on killing in order to cover up their mistakes often lead to the worst atrocities. On the third hand, going to war is more culturally acceptable, but having a coup does lead to fewer people dying in total (if you don't fuck it up)...
