Wow. My daughter Caractacus (not her real name, as I assume your isn't either ;) is 17 months. I'm not sure how I'd get her up to the height of the sink or the cooker... how do you do it? Plus C is a clamberer -- I would worry she'd try to climb down or climb further.

We have an Ikea step / stool thing in the kitchen. The Captain pushes it to the sink or the hob and climbs up it. He sometimes falls off but breakfast is more important to him than pain. (Pain is temporary, Breakfast is forever!)

The Captain climbs everything. I can't work out how to stop him. He's fast and determined. I hope a few tumbles will make him more circumspect but so far not. I'm fully resigned to visiting Sick Kids A&E at some point soon.

Will get some once my kitchen is no longer a building site and give it a try.

Recently I had the idea that maybe if I take C to the playpark and let her have a really good climb that'll use up her climbing desire for the day... she climbs up the slides backwards and since last weekend tries ladders too.

my daughter is autistic, loves to help and is heartbroken when she thinks she hasn't

this generally involves asking her to do something, letting her crack on with it, then checking everything *very carefully* afterwards to make sure no-one will die.

watching her sheer joy at doing / fixing stuff is totally priceless. We drive each other completely nuts.

I'm not convinced that there is a finite amount of climbing.

I think the Captain climbs the things he does in the house because he wants to be closer to something and climbing is the way to get there. He climbs the kitchen stool to help with cooking or washing up, he climbs the window seat so he can look at the birds, he climbs the bed to come for a cuddle. He also likes the climbing gear in the park.

It's difficult to tell what's going on because it all changes so quickly.

The Captain had a pretty bad fall yesterday and I wonder if it will make him more circumspect. It's not the climbing I mind but the dismount.
