[LJ2ME] Man about town
May. 5th, 2007 01:47 amAfter writing my last piece I headed for the shower, and then phoned Guy to see whether he was dressing up for his birthday meal or not. Thankfully it turned out he wasn't, but I grabbed a shirt anyway, albeit with some old faded jeans, and headed out the door, pausing only to let Nick in. He's staying for the Dark City 'music' festival because it's easier than commuting from Stirling every day.
Anyway, by this point I was running late (quelle surprise), so I leapt into a taxi to the corner of Princes Street and The Royal Mile, where I was meeting Ellie, and wandered with her to Guy's. pausimg only to point out the view of Carlton Hill, where Beltane was (an event of which she has very little memory). Me up with a load of people at Guy's, some of whom I actually recognised, and then headed to Khushi's new location.
Khushi's is one of Scotland's oldest Indian restaurants, dating from 1947, although it's moved a few times. The most recent move was to fantastically opulent quarters above The Grassmarket, and this was my first time there. I was suitably impressed, especially as Guy had a side room just for us. Mind you, with over 20 guests we needed it. In fact despite the hugeness of our table we most definitely needed it, havng to budge up twice to fit more people in.
The food was delicious and reasonably priced, and I made conversation (polite and otherwise) with a variety of people, including Ellie, Guy, Rachel, Andrea and Jackie. I then walked Ellie back to her place, had a brief cup of tea, said hi to Padmini and Fergus and headed for home.
The plan had been to walk for 20 minutes to London Road and get a taxi there, but the cash machine was broken and by the time I reached a functioning one I was enjoying Hybrid Theory so much I kept walking, finally getting a taxi only when my shoes began rubbing a hole in my little toe.
And then into bed with my phone and keyboard to write this. And now sleep!
