“Whether it’s magic or scientific, what I care about is it detects bombs... I know more about this issue than the Americans do. In fact, I know more about bombs than anyone in the world.”
Wow.

I am for some reason disappointed that big_ben_clock doesn't mark the quarter hours.

Same-sex marriage should be forced on an unwilling populace by activist judges, like integration.

Bussing of gays and armed guards?

I think you mean busing of gays, but whatever floats your boat.

This particular bit of civil rights enforcement will have almost no effect on the lives of those it is forced upon.

So, if it doesn't have any effect on the lives of those it is forced upon doesn't that make it different from Jim Crow laws, where white racists were obviously against their loss of *tangible* privilege? As in, if blacks were prevented from voting etc, then a system of white discrimination could prevail?

For the record, in case you misread me, I have no problems whatsoever with civil partnership / gay marriage / equality - I'm just playing devil's advocate on a too easy (and US/UK) comparison.

Those who oppose one form of discrimination may not be against another, for selfish reasons.

Have you seen Tongues Untied BTW - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103099/ - which is on black gay men's double marginalisation in black and gay cultures in the US.

The managing director of the divining rod company should be forcibly trained up on his own device and then made to go clear a minefield just to prove his device works.
Scratch that, anyone working to market them or train people in their use could go too.
In no way would I condone such a tragic loss of human life. . . . except in this case I would laugh.
