I think you mean busing of gays, but whatever floats your boat.

This particular bit of civil rights enforcement will have almost no effect on the lives of those it is forced upon.

So, if it doesn't have any effect on the lives of those it is forced upon doesn't that make it different from Jim Crow laws, where white racists were obviously against their loss of *tangible* privilege? As in, if blacks were prevented from voting etc, then a system of white discrimination could prevail?

For the record, in case you misread me, I have no problems whatsoever with civil partnership / gay marriage / equality - I'm just playing devil's advocate on a too easy (and US/UK) comparison.

Those who oppose one form of discrimination may not be against another, for selfish reasons.

Have you seen Tongues Untied BTW - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103099/ - which is on black gay men's double marginalisation in black and gay cultures in the US.
