There's a petition here to have banks be nicer to those poor widdle buy-to-let people who pushed up the prices, invested money they didn't have, and now find they can't afford to pay their mortgages.

Date: 2008-10-23 12:13 pm (UTC)I have always been in a different situation than the people you describe because my Dad's a landlord and had explained the reality of landlord life to me: so many of these people thought they could make a quick buck this way.
But do also bear in mind that many people with buy to let mortgages aren't actually buying to let: our last one was on our own house in Reading which we couldn't sell. To rent it when we had to move, we had to have a buy to let mortgage. And note, we couldn't sell it: this wasn't a question of too high a price, it simply attracted *no* interest, when Reading was hit with a preview of the Recession in 2005.
