The Two Towers
Sep. 30th, 2002 01:33 pmI just got a link (courtesy of the BBC) to the trailer AOL has for the Two Towers. I suspect AOL will cut this as soon as they notice, so enjoy it while you can, it'll be available worldwide soon enough.
Two notes:
1) Ooh, that looks good.
2) The music during the second half (the violin bits) is by the Kronos Quartet and is from the movie Requiem for a Dream. I'd recommend you all saw it, but only if you have strong stomachs and don't mind being horrifically depressed.

Date: 2002-09-30 08:46 am (UTC)And I've seen the Two Towers preview as well -- it all but makes me drool! Though I'm petrified of Golem, so I have mixed feelings about going to see the movie by myself.

I think some of the CGI in FOTR was a bit much -- Bilbo's grab at the ring would have been even MORE effective if I hadn't been distracted by the manipulation of his face. But then, I always think genuine "human" emotion is better than all the digital enhancement in the world. The same thing with the scene where Galadriel is tempted by the ring.

And seeing that Bilbo is physically being converted shows how very dangerous the Ring is. Galadriel was just getting carried away, but I did actually find it hard to understand her voice during that scene.

Date: 2002-09-30 09:45 am (UTC)I'm so excited about Two Towers right now!
For the most part they've been handling the more fantastical scenes very well. Though I still miss the presence of Tom Bombadil. Anyway. It's hard to convert into a visual format something that was really only meant to be envisioned in someone's head -- which is far more extraordinary than any CGI. That's the danger in converting any book into a film format, actually. Especially well-loved books. I think they are succeeding rather nicely with the LOTR stuff, but I know a few people who visioned things differently and are hating the movies.

No image of Bilbo you showed me would look like the Bilbo in my head, because the Bilbo in my head doesn't have a precise image, he's a collection of thoughts, images, feelings and connotations.
Kronos Quartet...
