There's a book quiz that [livejournal.com profile] gomichan recommended that I got so caught up in that I called Ed over and we compared the answers we gave.  It doesn't really matter what the final result is - the questions themselves are well worth thinking about.

Go do the quiz here and then come back and look at my answers.

Please bear in mind that he answers are fairly extreme - when I say that X is vital, or unimportant, I don't mean that X is always 100% unimportant - just that it's less important than other things, or that the answer resonates with me better than others in the list.

1)What are the key ideas in your philosophy of life? Choose six at most.
Reality exists only in our minds; there is no objective truth.
Truth-seeking and learning are things that should belong to everyone
Decadence, however pleasurable, can lead to trouble if exaggerated
Even the smallest of beings and things can have key value
Trying to find connection to Truth or the Divine can lead to immense despair
Life often feels fruitless and purposeless.

2)What do you find relief and happiness in? Choose three at most.
Songs and stories of myth and magic
Reading and philosophy.
Writing and introspection.

3)What is your greatest obstacle in life? Choose two at most.
The strife for good moral choices is so difficult.
I am always battling between my desire for beauty and decadence and my will to do the right thing.

4)What surroundings would you prefer? Choose two at most.
The surroundings are unimportant, its whats happening inside me that counts
I would like mysterious forests and magical creatures...

5)What is unique and special about you? Choose five at most.
I seek wisdom and knowledge endlessly but still am exciting and mysterious.
I find myself philosophical and political, though many call me pessimistic or even frightening.
I am sometimes difficult to understand, but if you just bother to take the time, I have amazing thoughts within me.
Symbolism and talented use of words are my strong points.
I am capable of wonderful intellectual conversations on moral issues (and also the uselessness thereof).

6)You express yourself... (choose two at most)
By having smart conversations and debates and comparing opposites.
By carefully phrasing my thoughts, which deal with the Big Things in Life.

7)You and spirituality. (choose two at most)
Spirituality is unimportant; ethics can sure be discussed without deity attached, and besides, I am more interested in beauty and pleasure. Mmmm..
Spirituality is unimportant; I have too much trouble coping with my own psychological issues, gender roles and my passion for writing - throwing God in would be way too much!

And my result:

The picture of dorian gray
Oscar Wilde: The Portrait of Dorian Gray. You are a
horror novel from the world of dandies, rich
pretty boys, art and aesthetics, and
intellectual debates between ethical people and
decadent pleasure-seekers. You value beauty and
pleasure but realize their dangers, as well.

The name of the rose
Umberto Eco: The Name of the Rose. You are a
mystery novel dealing with theology, especially
with catholic vs liberal issues. You search
wisdom and knowledge endlessly, feeling that
learning is essential in life.

I got Dorian Gray too. Damn, I was hoping for something Science Fiction-y.

Lord of the rings
J.R.R. Tolkien: Lord of the Rings. You are
entertaining and imaginative, creating whole
new worlds around yourself. Well loved, you
have a whole league of imitators, none of which
is quite as profound as you are. Stories and
songs give a spark of joy in the middle of your
eternal battle with the forces of evil.
