Doesn't surprise me in the slightest. Collies are near-human in their ability to understand wordforms. Meg is just 3 months old and, as well as understanding basic commands, can already differentiate between most of her toys: "postman", "ball", "bone", etc. We are currently training her to retrieve items from the fridge, such as "chardonnay", "viognier" and "Molina Cousinos Antiguas Reservas" ... No, I said the 2001 not the 2002, you silly dog, no go back and do it again...
