All they did was brush all the shite out, cut out the bits that were too far gone, cut the ends and then layer it.

Ooh, gosh, that looks really rather yummy. You now need to get yourself a particular sort of hairbrush (I'm not sure which one; I can describe very precisely the right hairbrush for long straight hair, which Marianne (currently the Spotty Frog) has); buying expensive hairbrushes seems to be money well spent. I recommend plaiting as a method for keeping long hair under control on weekdays, by the way...

I have a natural-rubber backed brush, very similar to the one that the hairdresser used on me. But if you find out what kind you have I'd love to know.

My hair, by the way, is anything but straight. It has been described before as a Jewfro...

Indeed; that's why the sort of hairbrush that Marianne has (which is a Denman paddle brush for long straight hair, with a cushion and ball-ended plastic bristles) probably wouldn't be right. I personally don't have a hairbrush; how I tell it's time to cut my hair is that it looks like it could do with brushing.

With M we brush twice a day, though if it's in plaits we often just let her sleep in them and brush them out and replait in the morning. We always, always plait it at night, often just in one plait; because otherwise it's unbearable in the mornings.
