#4 impresses. After my experience with Unions in the USSR I was pretty sceptical about all that, for many years. Only recently it started to occur to me that the problem was not with the unions, the problem was with the country.

I think that unions can be run badly. I've certainly encountered corruption and other problems with them. But they can be great, if they're run well.

That's what I observed: unions running badly. And when I discovered that the people run even worse, I quit my position of a union organizer, and soon I quit the union (which was outrageous, for the USSR).

And I remember cases, in the UK, when people vote to change the union management, and the next morning the new management gets corrupted.

Yeah, I've definitely seen that kind of thing.
