Since 1965, the US and Canadian automotive industries have been linked, with parts flowing back and forth across the border multiple times. Non-North American car imports were deliberately impeded by Canada to protect that relationship. Now that signed agreements are being torn up (including ones negotiated with the current US leader himself), there's no incentive to protect US automotive companies from competition in Canada.

Absolutely. I don't think that Trump has realised that he's taken away the carrot and pissed off too many countries to use the stick.
