Just had to ask what was going on.

Sophia told me "There's a spider in the bathroom"

You do wonder where this fear of spiders comes from. I've never had it.

Four legs good, eight legs bad. And they move fast.

What's wrong with spiders? They are smart and curious guys.
When I was a kid, we had some kind of taboo on killing spiders. I bet the taboo remains; it's just that I'm not there.

But with Sophia, the fear, most probably, was from other girls who look like they know better.

If I recall right, Andrew himself isn't terribly keen on spiders...

hope she covered the water spout! Who knows what pipe that scary beast will trek!

I hope she can learn to befriend spiders. I had forgotten, but my mom reminded me this past year, that when I was 10 I got upset at her for killing a daddy long legs in my room because "it was my pet". I did so after learning that spiders were good for catching bugs.

It makes sense. There are small spiders that sit quietly on a web in a corner, which I can ignore for a long time. Then there are spiders that scurry across the floor, which make me want to get them out of the house pronto.

By coincidence today I came across this 2020 video from Lunarbaboon (one of my favorite webcomic creators), which might help a tiny bit? (no live spiders shown, only a photo of one) :

Edited (Clarification: I can ignore small spiders in a corner. Large ones need to go outside along with the scurrying ones.) Date: 2025-10-06 05:04 pm (UTC)
