Just had my Clans of Caledonia pledge go through.
Game was €39.
On which I had to pay €16 postage.
And then €11 in tax.
Which isn't terrible. But you can totally understand why people go off Kickstarters!

Oh, I've had that before. I ordered a cute 'build a tree' game. When it was fulfilled the postage ended up being more than the pledge. I am still not entirely sure how.

Living in Australia I am very aware that shipping is generally more than the game itself. Although Kickstarters tend to be cheaper in that regard, as they tend to bulk ship the game to a fulfillment warehouse at freight rates rather than at the mail rates for individual packages. Sadly, some don't. But they are going up too. I keep a weather eye now on commercial freight rates ever since Covid.

When I back a Kickstarter, it's almost always for RPG books. And there I only get the PDF version, because of this. There are only two product lines that I want to have all the physical books for, and those are published by a Swedish publisher so I don't get hit with import taxes at least.

Physical fulfillment has become a nightmare.

First thing I check when looking at a tempting Kickstarter. So many I lose interest in when I realise that they assume everyone is in the US. It would take something quite special to back anything which hasn't got a UK distributer to keep the costs reasonable. It does mean I tend not to get so many of the small quirky ones, but from a storage space point of view that's probably a good thing.
