I only discovered Paw Patrol this past fall and I am delightedly watching all the rerunning of episodes (soo many episodes). Is voting for Mayor Humdinger a good thing? Is it because of Mayor Goodway's girl cooties?

I'm not actually voting for him. Gideon loves him though - it's unclear why, but I think he's just delighted by nobody else liking him, and wanting to be a bit transgressive in his choices.

Ah - it could also be because Mayor Humdinger has the best gadgets and a supercool cave lair. His Hummy Mummy is rather nice, too. But seriously on the gadgets - his are better than those of the Paw Patrol - by quite a lot. However, perpetually forgiven transgression is not to be sneered at, either.

I have, so far, managed to avoid seeing more than 10 seconds of the actual show. I've just heard the theme music too many times. And Gideon enthusing about Mayor Humdinger. And wanting me to read all of the names off of his Paw Patrol poster.

But I've seen merch. It's that one with "work is our play" as one catchphrase, right? I am not sure how that sits with me (but I assume the "work" the critters do is worthy stuff, so maybe my cynicism is unfounded...)

They're service animals. One is fire service, one is police, one digs out trapped people, etc.

So probably somewhat worthy.

I first heard about Paw Patrol when my nephew was watching it a lot (about ten years ago). Until I was corrected, I mondegreened it. I had no idea that it was not Papa Troll. I was imagining some combination of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papa_Smurf and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_doll.

Oh yes - I haven't seen much, but it's got a very simplistic view that plays into all sorts of things like that.
