5. The article quotes the anti-trans Republican county executive as saying that the judge didn't judge the case "on its merits," but his actual objection is to the judge doing exactly that. He found that county executive doesn't have the legal authority to ban trans women and girls from women's athletics in county parks. Therefore, the judge didn't need to decide whether that sort of discrimination is inherently against New York law.

The schmuck will probably go home and try to use this in fund-raising letters for his next election campaign, which was probably his real motivation anyhow. There is a county legislature, but I don't know whether they have the authority to do something like this either. (When I lived in New York, it was in the city, so I don't know much about county governments, except that Nassau's was notoriously corrupt in the late 20th century.)

Don't suppose you remember how the census question was worded? the E&W Q is fairly open ended and the way it's worded skews the results, but although I've gone thru the tables the actual question and format isn't in the data or the press release :-(

Excellent, thank you, and I'm right! I tried to get this changed when I was working in London.

Englands asks "What is your religion" and the top answer is "Christian, including [list] and all other Christian denominations", Scotland asks "What religion, religious denomination or body do you belong to?", starts none, has CofS as a tickbox and other denomination is a fill in the blanks

That's the main reason Scotland has a higher "none" answer, it's a different question and doesn't lead to non believers from a Xian background ticking it because they give gifts at Xmas, etc.
