I don't think I had clocked that Woman and Child was a statue of a person of colour.

Saroj Lal - she of the Canaan Lane school - or not as it turned out.

Which got me thinking about schools named after people in Edinburgh

16 named after saints.

One primary school named after Flora Stevenson

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flora_Stevenson

and one primary school and one secondary school named after James Gillespie

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Gillespie_(philanthropist)

One paid for the eponynm and the other probably founded by her when she ran the Edinburgh school board.

I'm in no way against naming something after her but it appears that naming state schools after people is not a very Edinburgh thing - unless they paid for it or set it up.

Seems to be more common for private schools.

"If there is evidence that an offence was aggravated by a prejudice motive on one of the listed grounds, that will be recorded by the police. It will be taken into account by the procurator fiscal (prosecutor) in decisions on whether and how to prosecute. Then, if the motive of prejudice is proven in court, it must be taken into account in sentencing. *That could mean a heavier or more appropriate sentence*."

I'm quite enjoying the last sentence of this paragraph from article 2.

An aggravating factor will lead to one of two outcomes 1) a heavier sentence or 2) a more appropriate sentence implying that a heavier sentence is a less appropriate sentence.

I'm not sure that misogyny is actually covered by the new legislation.
