10 Duffield is a prize nutbar and a nasty one at that!

An old friend of mine lectures at one of the Canterbury universities and is trans, so I pity her having to ever meet with this thing.

I can't remember where I read it but I read an article which argued that full fat milk was better than skimmed because the fat slowed the absorption of the sugars from the milk and associated spikes in blood sugar.

I think many of us are more than happy to see anything to justify following our instincts for fat (or sugar, salt depending on preferences...)

There's pretty good evidence of a definite downside to too much of either in the diet, especially saturated fat. And "too much" might be WAY less than we would like... Totally depends what you're optimising your life for though!

It's not much use to discuss this usually, you can probably find studies to support any view you want (but maybe check who funded them at least...)

(I'm going for maximum healthspan, personally)

1. I've never eaten or seen pawpaw, but the description sounds like custard apples and cherimoyas. Are they about the same thing? Some custard apples are grittier than others (like pears) but the good ones are heavenly.

I have the good fortune to live in the middle Atlantic region, and I've had pawpaws a few times. They're very good. I'd like them to be more available, but I didn't realize the barriers are so extreme-- I thought it was just that they're delicate when ripe, but there are so many other issues.

This WIRED article linked to their 2011 article on RISUG; the fact that that hasn't made significant progress in well over a decade makes me skeptical that this is going to go anywhere any time soon...and if this is a "repeat every 1-2 years" method rather than a "permanent unless reversed" method I'm not nearly as interested anyway.

Indeed. 25 years and still nothing relatively safe though? sigh

I'd always assumed that pawpaw was another name for papaya, whch we used to eat when we lived in the tropics, and which you often get in tropical fruit salads, but from the article they seem to be quite different.

Over the years I've come to believe that the less processed food you eat the better.
