My parents now have a dog who doesn't know whether he wants to be inside or outside, and has worked out how to stand on his back legs and open the door whenever he fancies. With the result that we have to close one of the back doors about 40 times a day.
Original is here on instagram.

Clearly they need to train him to close it :) (Hm. How would the dog get enough leverage?)

I came here to say that! I think octopuses can manage it, so a dog should be trainable?

Would it be more convenient to keep the door locked ? They would still have to go to the door, but would have some control on the timing and less heat would escape ?

Caspar worked out how to hurl his weight against the bedroom door until it opened, so I put a bolt on the bedroom door, but he has now worked out how to hurl his weight against it in a pattern that dislodges the bolt.

I'm getting a strong "You ain't seen me, roight?" vibe off this dog.
