Date: 2023-11-11 06:22 pm (UTC)The trucks no, but the conveyor belts ?
If this 51km belt
https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/69405-longest-conveyor-belt
is 1.5m wide the top surface of the belt is the same as the swept area of the 22MW turbine.
But a belt has a return half, so 75cm. And no this is not a series of linked belts, just the one.
They also compare it to CERN's Large Hadron Collider, but the tunnels don't move. Do you count the magnetic fields as "moving parts", or just the particles which are no bigger than atoms ?
[ Getting silly. If you do count the magnetic fields, what about a laser beam bouncing off a reflector on the moon ? I believe it widens out to 2ft and is 1/4 million miles each way. Hmm. https://www.nasa.gov/missions/laser-beams-reflected-between-earth-and-moon-boost-science/
says that the beam is 10ft wide when it leaves earth and more than a mile wide at the moon. Not sure those figures make ense for a laser. ]
