This is a dangerous choice.

I do not consent to reinfection. Therefore such shutdowns should not be happening.

The underlying data are still being published - there's a link in the second tweet.

With regard to link 5, the question “Who do you ask if you want to know if Linux is in compliance with the essential requirements?” actually has a very clear and straightforward answer, it’s just not one that manufacturers like. You ask your own internal software audit team. If you don’t have an internal software audit team, then you have no business using free software in the devices that you manufacture, and should be paying for software from someone who does have such a team.

My response, as a (sort-of) software developer working in a bank is:

"About time this was legislated!"

Banks have an explicit regulatory duty to purchase or write secure and stable software: and that means having sofware development and testing standards, mandatory training, and an effective system of testing and review.

We're audited on it.

Other industries - outside aviation! - have the general duty of public liability, and 'codes of practice'...

The 'Accelerator chip' scandal in the motor industry, a decade ago, is a case study of how safety-critical software was (and in many places still is) a matter of complete unconcern to senior engineers and managers.

Security is even lower down the list of priorities, and only legislation - with teeth! - will change that.

In general, I like the idea and the sparseness. I suspect, however, that I would be disappointed by the overall execution. They gotta show me all the major cards.

Seventeen dollars Canadian? I'd still need to see all the major cards. ;)
