Date: 2023-05-14 01:50 pm (UTC)Steroid use is incredibly prevalent among male gym users, is responsible for most of the physiques that are seen in the most popular social media accounts. EVERY pro-level bodybuilder since the 60s has used them (and other substances jointly known as PEDs = Performance Enhancing Drugs, e.g. insulin, growth hormone, thyroid hormones, diuretics etc.). EVERY one. There's just no way to be competitive otherwise (except at the smaller, "Natural Bodybuilding" competitions. The fact that this term even exists tells you much). Most non-gym-trainers don't know this. Most serious trainers take it for granted. This percolates down to the young teenagers just starting training, who now take more PEDs, in higher doses and earlier in their training than ever before - with serious physical as well as mental health consequences.
But of course so many many many lie about PED use, or lie by omission, adding to the mental health issues for the ordinary guy who does not know these guys are all on drugs.
Hollywood has exacerbated this trend, I have no doubt of that. But all media shares the responsibility.
