A couple of thought occur.

A narrow margin in an election is okay if the election process is seen as legitimate - not sure a Twitter poll counts. A narrow margin is unproblematic if the outcome is discrete or easily reversible, an election in a single district for example, not a major constitutional change. A narrow margin in an election might be binding if the loosing side has to stay - unlike a commercial social media service where people who don't want to share a server with Donald Trump or with people who would vote for Donald Trump to have a platform can just leave.

Precedent for a 52-48 result in a non-binding referendum being treated as a mandate to make major changes exists, though a rational actor might look at the results and be skeptical of the wisdom of doing so.
