Evers since Sandman came out in August and took the top spot for the month for streaming worldwide, but didn't yet get a renewal* I've been wondering what's performed better.

Fortunately, Netflix make a bunch of their data available at https://top10.netflix.com/ - at the bottom of the page in both Excel and TSV format. I read that into PowerShell, and spat out some totals.

Bear in mind that this is number of hours spent *while the show was in the top 10*. If the show spent all year at #11, never quite breaking in, but raking up a large amount of hours overall, then it won't show up here. And also this data is from July 2021 onwards, so there will definitely be earlier shows that aren't shown, or when they are they'll only be showing because Season 2's release meant a bunch of people watched Season 1 again. (The Witcher is a great example of this - season 1 hit #2 in the charts when season 2 came out last Christmas.) I'd love to have Netflix's full dataset to play with, but alas that's not likely to happen.

I've only included the top 30 in each case. There are 217 seasons, in 161 shows overall. If anyone wants the full spreadsheet then just shout!

*It also hasn't been cancelled. Which leads me to think that there's currently intense bartering in the background over how much Netflix will pay for season 2, versus whether they think they can actually make a TV series that's largely set in Hell and will need an impressive special effects budget for that much. Keeping my fingers crossed - I love Season of Mists, and would be fascinated to see it translated.

I'm disenchanted by the absence of Disenchantment

We're currently catching up on Schitt's Creek

We did watch season 1 of Bridgerton, but my partner binged season 2 and didn't like it enough to rewatch it with me

I don't think I'm interested in anything in the top 30

Even allowing for the caveats on the dates of the data set Stranger Things seems very much more popular than everything else. Or have I missed something?

The Captain watched it and seemed to really enjoy it.

It is exactly my childhood era. i.e. I was also 11 in the year Season 1 is set. I think that is a big big part of its appeal - especially to many fellow-geeks (and others, of course, but particularly the loser/outcast/gamers). The deliberate hommage to the kind of Steven King books we read back then is also a winner.
