Which is interesting, because historically, my most likely typo is to transpose the first two letters in a word -- it usually happens when I'm typing very quickly, and switching hands rapidly. (ie, it is more likely for me to type the letters in the order of left hand-right hand-left hand than it is to do left-left-right, even if the word itself should be left-left-right.)

My biggest typo is "hte". Or "teh", but that's not so much of an issue.

Taht's ralely nfity :)

I suppose it only makes sense, prior to the Victorian era, spelling was far from regularized and people could still read w/o problem. I'd imagine that random spelling would confuse poor and new readers more, but otherwise it honestly does seem to make little difference.

One of my favourite things about reading pre-early modern lit is that is it so phonetic. I managed to stash away somewhere two of Caedmon's Hymn's. While we know that certain dialects of Old English were dominant over different time periods, CH is the only piece of work surviving in multiple forms that are dialectically varied and not just spelling differenced.

Of course, you still have to learn the words in the first place, otherwise your brain would have no point of reference.
