For (hypothetical) prehistoric animation (disks set up to twirl between two images), see the Cass Neary books by Elizabeth Hand-- the last two books I think. All four are worth reading.

5. Yeah, that was dumb on the part of Dominion Command.

6. And the way things are, the Brexiteers can keep the game rigged for the foreseeable to keep themselves installed.

8. Refugees trapped between autocrats playing games...and again, I am reminded of the message of Warsan Shire's poem...

7) I am reminded of the Steely Dan song "The Caves of Altamira":

I would climb the garden wall
With a candle in my hand
I'd hide inside a hall of rock and sand
On the stone an ancient hand
In a faded yellow-green
Made alive a worldly wonder
Often told but never seen
Now and ever bound to labor
On the sea and in the sky
Every man and beast appeared
A friend as real as I

Before the fall when they wrote it on the wall
When there wasn't even any Hollywood
They heard the call ...

Nothing says good taste and a solemn act of remembrance like linking to the blockchain.

To be honest currently I can see almost nothing but the thongs. They are burned on to my retina.

"A display of love of war by people who have never experienced it" sums up a lot of my unease about Remembrance Sunday.

I attended a small Remembrance Day observance at the local war graves cemetery (a very beautiful, peaceful place, maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission). Due to COVID restrictions, it was very straightforward, and simple. Everyone masked and distanced. There was a short speech by someone from the UK Embassy, commemorating the soldiers and civilians, foreign and local, who died in the various Asian theatres (mostly of WWII). People deposited their wreaths and performed whatever observances they considered proper at the cenotaph (bow, salute, whatever), signed the visitors' book and left.
