Hmmmm...... on the 'secret court case' item.

The real damage was done by Corbett v Corbett (1969)- the April Ashley divorce case although it was brought precisely because Corbett was an aristo who suddenly realised there'd be no offspring.

In truth up to then people had changed their BCs and passports and got wed with the minimum of fuss and no one had noticed.

Which the Royal Canadian Legion's been opposing the existence of and respect for for quite some years now, last I checked. They insist and demand that the white poppy be seen as disrespectful and trademark infringement to boot.

According to Wikipedia's entries, there's one small factual error in the Ewan Forbes article. Only the baronetcy was restricted to the male line, and was consequently inherited by Ewan from his brother William. The barony could be inherited by female heirs in the absence of males, and was inherited by William's daughter.

Wikipedia also states that Ewan was born intersex, and was assigned female almost arbitrarily.

It is, however, a fascinating story. I'd wondered how the authorities would treat such a case, and now we see they already have.
