"Caster Semenya is being forced to alter her body to make slower runners feel secure in their womanhood"

This is awful for Caster Semenya. It's also awful for feminism. And sport. Shame on this court. Shame on the sport industry for making this a thing.

Inflicting pain and also, tomatoes

I've always wondered about these tests, though. They seem to me to confuse Doylist and Watsonian interpretations of behaviour. Surely it makes a difference if you're in an obviously controlled experimental setting, in a country and institution with actual functioning laws, regulations and internal ethics guidelines, and are presumably fairly sure that no one is actually going to be seriously injured, so it's not real? What the same person will do can differ hugely according to context and circumstances.

It reminds me of those silly 'leadership' or whatever games where they try to get people to pretend that chocolate coins are stakes worth getting excited and arguing about, and there are quite a lot of people who do get excited, even though it is utterly irrational to do so. Though fewer if everyone has just had lunch, and no-one's hungry....

I was just told yesterday that most of the tinned tomatoes in the EU are actually from China, and just packed in Italy...
