Off topic: somewhere somewhere you mentioned a test that chimps do better than humains. Somewhere somewhere I saw this linked today: https://humanbenchmark.com/dashboard

I believe there is a non-timed version of this test there (I got 19 pts but certainly couldn't have done it if had been timed).

As one does.

Obituaries

Currently, 'The Economist' has the best obituaries, in the sense that they are always of interesting people, or at least people who died in interesting circumstances. I recall some speculation in my circle that they had a special ninja assassination unit to ensure a good obituary subject every week...

Coping tools sadly don't work for someone who is (a) too disorganised or otherwise mentally incapable to even use them ; (b) unwilling and unable to even recognise that they have a problem. Do I speak from painful experience dealing with someone like this? I do. Not all jobs are for everyone.

The Turkmenistan article and the shipping port article are fascinating in that they're a window into things I didn't know ANYTHING about. It's sort of scary how much of that there is, and society is made of all of it glued together.

Yes! So many people have a mental image of how modern societies work that would be excessively simplistic if applied to a small hunter-gatherer family in Papua New Guinea.
