On the Corbin Bleu article: I have doubts about the research skills of whoever described Nahuatl (which Wikipedia says has 1.7 million speakers) or Pennsylvania Dutch, though a Pennsylvania Dutch Wikipedia is unlikely to get much use. Pennsylvania Dutch is the Germanic language spoken by Amish people in the United States--a people who are well-known for rejecting a lot of technology specifically because using it would connect them to the "English" society around them. (There may not be many Nahuatl-speakers online, but that's different from having a cultural/religious bias against the Internet.)

"The reality of integrated American education did not go as smoothly as the myth"

TIL this myth exists. WTF? In junior high, we would typically study Ruby Bridges's terrible experience as a 6th grader in a previously all-white school (and Rockwell's painting depicting her first day), 6 years after Brown vs BoE. And it's not one of the worst ones as show by the article. What are they teaching American students?!

What they're teaching American students, at least some of them, is that yes this was horrible, here are the brave children who stood up against it, and that's in the past. Or they teach them that yes it was a problem, but not here: if you're in the north they talk about the south, and if you're in New York you might learn about white Boston-area parents fighting against busing, but not about why your "integrated" school has a lot more white students than it would by chance, given where you live.

That's what they teach (some) white students, in schools that are integrated more on paper than in the classrooms; I don't know what they teach in schools that aren't majority-white.

*shakes head* This reminds me how we would not teach about slavery and the slave trade here in Europe, or how my country used to put so much emphasis on resistance during WWII and less on all the awful things we did. Dunno why I expected other countries to do better with their own history.

Thank you so much for your insight.
