Date: 2020-06-21 12:12 pm (UTC)On the Corbin Bleu article: I have doubts about the research skills of whoever described Nahuatl (which Wikipedia says has 1.7 million speakers) or Pennsylvania Dutch, though a Pennsylvania Dutch Wikipedia is unlikely to get much use. Pennsylvania Dutch is the Germanic language spoken by Amish people in the United States--a people who are well-known for rejecting a lot of technology specifically because using it would connect them to the "English" society around them. (There may not be many Nahuatl-speakers online, but that's different from having a cultural/religious bias against the Internet.)

In junior high, we would typically study Ruby Bridges's terrible experience as a 6th grader in a previously all-white school (and Rockwell's painting depicting her first day), 6 years after Brown vs BoE. And it's not one of the worst ones as show by the article. What are they teaching American students?!
