1) Writer has a point, but the point is well-illustrated by numerous cases of skilled police de-escalation of openly-armed wackos, which does show up the ones who shoot on sight "for fear of their lives" as the dangerous boobies that they are, but would muddle up the narrative of "yes, all cops." Actually, there's a distinction to be made: yes, all cops enable this toxic culture, but no, not all cops would actually do it, and the post seems determined to muddle that distinction as much as possible.

Also: sure, the staff at the facility are well-trained to be non-violent, but how often are the kids in that facility going to be armed? That's the possibility the police have trouble coping with.

Also: I kind of doubt the commitment to "We have to be calm, regardless. We have to be gentle, regardless." of someone who immediately turns around and writes, "So when I hear bullshit ... I lose my shit." You're not in your facility now, yes, but that's not someone who's really internalized and absorbed the precepts.

The theory of mind stuff is interesting. I'll try to remember it the next time I have a bit of the Iliad to read.
