Anything that helps with science's diversity problem is worth pursuing. I'm a little skeptical about this finding. And also concerned that it sets up a bad problem later when people find out that being a scientist involves a shockingly small amount of doing science (in the way presented here).

True, I can see that being an issue later on. But then being a programmer also frequently involves little programming. And I suspect this is true of a great many jobs.

Yeah, almost certainly! Although I would guess that there are fewer people who end up unhappy in early established career when they discover they do vanishingly little actual accountancy. Though there will be some, in fairness.
