Date: 2018-02-15 10:14 am (UTC)A former colleague of mine, who I'll call Clive because that's his name, liked to tell the story of having been walking through a forest and encountered a crow sitting on a branch.
Whimsically, Clive made a cawing noise at the crow. The crow cawed back.
Clive cawed twice. The crow cawed back twice.
Clive cawed three times. The crow cawed back three times.
Clive continued in this vein, with the crow matching him number for number, until at 17 caws Clive got bored with the game and wandered off.
"So now," Clive would always finish, "there's some crow flapping around that forest convinced that humans are too stupid to count beyond 17!"
