Woman dumps man for his online alter ego

Insecure man decides to test his girlfriend's love by having an online affair with her under a pseudonym. She dumps him for his online self. He commits suicide.

Meanwhile, Clark Kent is desolate that Lois Lane prefers Superman to him...

Strangely enough....

There was a "Jem and the Holograms" episode almost exactly like this. Jem used the holographic powers of her computer, Synergy, to make herself look completely different and flirt with her boyfriend, to see if he would fall for another girl. When he did, she was upset and started crying, but Synergy told her what it meant was that he loved her for what was inside her, not what she looked like. So really it meant that he truly loved her! Umm, yeah.

It's scary that I remember that, all these years later....
