Julie: "Oh, you're going to run away, are you. I should probably just blow up your city for the hell of it."

(Yes, she's developed an addiction to Civ 5. And she says that _they_ started it, completely unprovoked.)

Actually Alexander was Macedonian, not Greek.

Another classic example of the sort of stack exchange question I mentioned is "What happens when you die?" which could be a question on christianity or judaism or philosophy stack exchange, but would never really be asked that straightforwardly :)

it's fine. so far she's just on american foreign policy.
if she starts walling them in and using them as slave labour or laughing at their inability to support their population due to forcibly limited resources, however...

I was having a very peaceful establishment! Then out of nowhere, my neighbour and friend, Alexander of Greece declared war! Also, it seems everyone time I agree to open boarders, within 20 turns, I get warred on again! >:(

Don't open your borders unless you've got a strong enough military (and march it around a bit) so your counterparts don't think you might be easy pickings.

There's no diplomatic benefit to opening borders as I recall, so I tend not to bother.

They always start it. They do things like deliberately building the Pyramids when you were just about to. At least in Civ III it's easy to keep people on good terms. (Unless they're Aztecs, in which case proactively kill the ba*ds.)

Good timing. 22nd June is when the Gods & Kings expansion comes out, bringing religion and, possibly for the first time in the history of Civilisation, espionage that might not suck.

Hmmm... I've given up trying to explain AI actions in RTS's and just accepted that I may as well start. If no one wants to be my friend, then they can just be my god damn underlings instead!

I always get this sort of mental dissonance by reading stack exchange questions. You get a long list of eclectic but traditional internet fare like "How do I do foo in Java" or "Is [urban legend] true" or "Blah blah blah theology blah" and then suddenly hit a "How do you make bows set things on fire?" or "Can I add wood to trees to make them bigger?" :) They're even more disturbing if they're about how to kill security guards without getting caught :)

:) Both minecraft, as a matter of fact, which is probably a good source for surreal questions, although not as rich in apparently psychopathic ones as FPSs and MMOs :)
