I've studied the reaction-diffusion equations. We've been using them for ages in mathematical biology, I had no idea they hadn't actually been proven in reality.

Looking at the list of legislatures with interests in the medical industry some of the interests don't seem to benefit particularly and directly from the reforms and a couple might actually be harmed by them.

for example I'd expect medical technology firms such as the one Lord Darzi has an interest in to be selling technology to British healthcare providers no matter the NHS was constituted.

Yup, there's some fascinating discussion in the comments about whether some people are simply involved in the health industry, or if they are actively set to gain.

I am feeling cynical today and wondering if the point of the list of people with ties to the health industry was to smear the entire political establishment by associating those with any* link to health care provision with those who definately do stand to gain.

*I wonder if the list includes any NHS union activists who will see their local influence increase as a result of their organisation of a the anti-bill campaign.

I think Steve Jobs' death will give Apple a short term bump - people like me who were never really into Apple products have read that great biography and fallen for Jobs' obsessive creativity and drive for perfection. I hope they can keep up the obsession and not fall back into the corporate malaise that ruined Apple the last time Jobs left.
