Insomnia

Despite it being a perfectly reasonable 20 degrees in the flat right now, I lay in bed for an hour and a half unable to sleep, and feeling hot and sweaty before giving up and getting up to surf the internets.

Not that anything terribly exciting has been going on on them for the last two hours (it took me less than five minutes to catch up), but it beats staring at the inside of my own eyeballs.

I'm not sure if I ate something unusual, have come down with a slight case of something, or what, but my body is just refusing to get comfortable. It's disconcerting.

My brain's not really working well enough to do anything productive, and I probably shouldn't start playing computer games at half one in the morning. And the two books I'm in the middle of are both next to the bed, in the dark, near a sleeping Julie, so I'm not going to go rooting around for them.

*sigh*

you and me both, 20 is just a bit to hot to nod off
but not warm enough to shake the duvet off

sadly my brain is substituting social paranoia for actual activity

:(

Possibly useful, though I hope you simply recover your normal ability to sleep:

The Chillow, a water-filled pillow.

Primley Hot Flash Pillow, probably silica gel.

Both have a cooling effect. The Chillow has a foam rubber pad inside, and as an inveterate pillow folder and crusher, I have to fiddle with it now and then to flatten the foam pad.

The Primley is just cloth, and cools by evaporation. It also leaks a little water, so you need to have a towel under it.

We had the same problems last night. We have stopped sleeping with the window open as it was causing our hay fever. So catch 22! Today is sponsored by coffee!

I treat hay fever with 25mg vitamin b6, e.g. see

Vitamin B6: Extract of Submission to the UK’s Food Standards Agency

Works well for me as I really don't like to use cetirizine - although talso works really well for me and is cheap.

For insomnia try earphones and listening to the world service for 30mins-1hr. I usually find that gives my brain something to focus on away from the normal thoughts rolling around in there :) Usually start to feel sleep after a while.

Hope you managed to get some sleep later. I got rudely awoken by the cat throwing up at 4.20 am then couldn't get back to sleep because I was too hot, so I can sympathise.
