Ultra-coolvid,but one small correction: that's not corn syrup - it's a cornflour(cornstarch in the US) colloid displaying its dilatant properties i.e. stiff when pushed/compressed, flows otherwise. I spent TONS of time mucking with cornflour as a kid.

Corn syrup is the evil high-fructose sweetener popular in fizzy drinks and processed food (especially in the US).

The opposite to dilatant is thixotropic: flows when pushed, solid when left alone - paints are often deliberately made to behave like this.

Cornflour paste is fun stuff to play with. I spent some happy hours when I worked in science education showing kids what weird stuff it is.
